Do you have any tips for someone starting out in photography?
Shoot what you love. Experiment with different editing styles to see what fits you best. Don’t get too caught up in the technical aspect of things. Photography is an artistic medium that allows for individual expression. You’re not trying to be like everyone else.
Don’t put too much emphasis on f-stops and ISO settings and the other technical jargon that often stifles creativity. Have a working knowledge of it, but overall your photos should have heart and tell a story. Sometimes that means underexposing a picture, capturing a blurry image of a moving subject, or breaking any other number of rules that photography purists tell you not to.
We’ve all seen great technical photos that have zero personality and could have been taken by anyone with the same camera. Don’t be that person. Stand out. Develop a personal style that is uniquely your own. I say this as someone still trying to find that personal style himself.
